Conférence de Paix

30/10/2020

Today we had the great honour to welcome Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish for a peace conference at the LLIS.

The five-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and internationally recognized human rights and inspirational peace activist, often referred to as the "Gaza Doctor" in the media, is a Palestinian medical doctor, devoted to advance health and education opportunities for women and girls in the Middle East. Currently, Dr. Abuelaish is an Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto, Canada.

He is also known for his commitment to peace between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and his book “I will not hate”describes the circumstances of the tragedy and how this fate inspired him to become more committed to peace. Pupils from 3CCG, 3GPS and S4 classes prepared for the meeting with the doctor and asked relevant questions about living conditions in the Gaza Strip, current political relations between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.

Dr. Abuelaish then presented to the young audience his autobiography, where he relates his childhood, his studies and also the very painful moments of his life with the loss of his three daughters and his niece during a bombing. Trough this book, he describes in a concrete way, for our students who can maybe hardly imagine this complexe reality, what is the life in Gaza like, for the kids or the teenagers. In the name of the school, we thank Dr. Abuelaish a lot for joining us today in those very special sanitary circumstances and we would also thank the non gouvernmental organism "Comité pour une paix juste au Proche-Orient" and Mr Legrand who organised the stay for him in Luxemburg.

We wish the foundation "Daughters for life" a lot of success and we hope that Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish can find support for all those girls of the Middle East.
